HELLO!

I'm Lucy, founder, needle felter and sole maker at Thimblu. Nice to meet you...

I founded Thimblu in 2015 as a way of funding myself through a Fine Art Degree at Bath Spa University. After finishing my degree I moved from my well-set roots in lovely Somerset to a small family farm in rural Herefordshire who had their own beautiful flock of sheep. This provided the opportunity to enthusiastically transition from shop bought mixed fibres to fully natural 100% wool fibres from the farm's flock - both making my work environmentally sustainable and letting me become better acquainted with the beautiful animals that provide me with my materials. I very much had my hands in every stage of the creative process, from feeding and looking after the flock right through to collecting cleaning and dying the wool, designing the pieces, needle felting, finishing and photographing. In more recent times I have stepped away from the farming aspect, but lovingly continue working with the beautiful wool and am very grateful for that.

Here at Thimblu we pride ourselves on offering lovingly made, personal and individual gifts at a range of prices to suit any pocket. We're all about the idea of affordable art, so to balance out the more time consuming and costly pet portraits and commissioned pieces, we make sure we also have a range of pre-made miniature goodie in the shop so no-one need miss out on their own little piece of handmade art.

For treats and trinkets perfect for gifts or home decor, either visit my shop or one of my lovely stockists. Orders for pet portraits and commissions are open via bookings in the shop throughout the year, but you are welcome to get in touch beforehand for anything specific or if you have any questions and I will see what I can do.
